ADHD for Caregivers

The purpose of this workshop is to provide an overview of ADHD diagnosis and treatment. Participants can expect to learn about ADHD as a developmental disorder that begins early in childhood, and participants will also learn about evidence-based approaches for treating ADHD. At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the behaviour characteristics, key areas of functional impairment, and symptom presentation of ADHD
  • Identify and apply evidence-based parenting and teaching strategies for supporting children and youth with ADHD in the home, classroom, and community
  • Understanding Childhood Anxiety

    The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with an understanding of what anxiety is, the impact of anxiety on daily functioning, and strategies for supporting a child living with anxiety. At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify different anxiety disorders
  • Identify two evidence-based treatments for anxiety
  • Have some practical strategies for supporting children living with anxiety
  • Understanding Childhood OCD

    This workshop aims to provide participants with an understanding of what obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is, the ways in which OCD can present in children and youth, as well as explore the impact OCD can have on the daily functioning of children. Lastly, this workshop will provide participants with evidenced-based treatment approaches for treating OCD. At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Be aware of the diagnostic criteria for OCD and have a basic understanding of using Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for treating OCD
  • Identify the different ways in which OCD can present in children and youth
  • Identify and apply evidence-based parenting strategies for supporting children and youth with OCD in the home, classroom and community settings
  • Self-Regulation in Children

    The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with an understanding of self-regulation, how to work with a child who has difficulties self-regulating and guidance on how to help a child develop their self-regulation skills. At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the building blocks necessary for developing self-regulation
  • Understand the parent/caregiver/educator role in supporting the development of self-regulation skills in children
  • Have some practical strategies that can be incorporated into home and classroom environments to help children with self-regulation
  • Understanding Depression in Youths

    Although we tend to associate low mood and other mental health concerns with adults, children and youth can experience mental illnesses like depression. The purpose of this workshop is to challenge misconceptions, help people to recognize the symptoms of depression and to learn strategies for supporting children and youth who experience low mood. At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the causes and types of depression
  • Understand the impact of depressive behaviours, thoughts, and emotions
  • Apply strategies to reduce levels of sadness and to increase feelings of happiness and hope
  • Engage in supportive conversation
  • Understanding and Managing Challenging Behaviour in Children

    The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with a lens in which to view challenging behavior, and how to work with a child presenting with challenging behaviour. At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
  • Understand the function of behaviour
  • Use assessment information in planning interventions
  • Have some practical strategies for behaviour change
  • Mindfulness for Children and Caregivers

    The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with a lens in which to view challenging behavior, and how to work with a child presenting with challenging behaviour. At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

    Parenting Tips for Healthy Sleep Habits

    Sleep is essential for our children to grow and develop. Yet, many families struggle with getting their children to fall – and stay – asleep. Join us to learn about the importance of sleep, the amount of sleep children need, common sleep problems, when to seek professional help, and strategies to help support healthy sleep habits.
